The Big Hunt – Washington, DC

This is another great craft beer bar in DC that is in the DuPont Circle area.  I have been here before and they have their own private labeled beers (all with “Ass” in the name): Bad Ass Amber, Big Ass Wheat, Liteass Brew, Hard Ass IPA.  Their private labeled beers are always on special.  We were there on a THUR night and pints were $3 before 7:00p.m.  Can’t beat that.  It is kind of a funky bar that their website says is the oldest craft beer bar in DC.  There are three levels, four bars and 27 beers on draft.  They even have an outside Tiki area which I assume is a smoking area but not sure.  The view is of the alley of the buildings so not very scenic in the outside bar but gives you some fresh air on a nice day.

Their private labeled beers were pretty good.  I stuck with the Hard Ass IPA which was respectable.  I rated it a 2.5/5.0 on Untapp’d.  I like a little more citrus flavor but very drinkable.  I then had a Firestone Union Jack IPA from CA.  I rated this a 3.0/5.0 on Untapp’d.  I actually drove by this brewery the week before in California.  It is off the 101 in Paso Robles.  Here is their website link: www.firestonebeer.com.

On THUR, The Big Hunt has half priced burgers after 7:00 p.m. so of course I went for a burger with blue cheese, tomato, lettuce, and added mayo/mustard.  Pretty good burger and their onion rings were also pretty awesome.

The Big Hunt is a great spot to get a craft beer in DC and has great drink and food specials.  I still prefer ChurchKey but if you are in the DuPont Circle area, this is also a good choice (and not far from the Sauf Haus if you want a German beer).  Go to www.thebighunt.net for more info on their beers, specials and location.
