Sunset Bar & Grill is a great beach bar where you can watch planes take-off and land while sipping on a cold beer. This bar is located right at the end of the runway at St. Maarten airport (SXM). They have a board that shows the flight arrivals which happen about every 10-15 minutes. There are lots of commuter planes but the jets are the best ones to watch come in and take-off. If you go on YouTube, you can see some great videos of people hanging onto the fence when a jet is taking off and letting the jet blast them across the beach. We were there picking up a friend at the airport so we got a video of her American Airlines flight landing. The video is embedded below. Buckets of 6 beers are $15 and they have bar food if you are hungry (pizza’s, burgers, lots of deep fried items like: shrimp, fries, onion rings, grouper, poppers, etc.). We started with a bucket of Presidente and switched to Miller Lite. They also have a full bar so you can also get mixed drinks, smoothies or beach drinks. We didn’t have any parking issues and there are shuttles and taxi’s that take people into Phillipsburg to get back to their cruise. If you are ever in St. Maarten, you must check this place out.
