We have a vacation property in Port Austin, MI and usually get a chance to visit a couple times a year.  When we lived in MI we were there every weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  Port Austin is at the “tip of the thumb” in the lower “mitten”.  It fills up with vacationers from “the city” which is basically the Detroit Metro area on the weekends and is very quiet during the week.  We learned of a new brewery/restaurant that just opened and is within walking distance from our place (1.1 miles).  We don’t drink and drink so we walked there on THUR and had beer and dinner.  They are a low volume producer and assume they only produce in 5 gal. batches (like a home brewer) because I was told they produce beer in the kitchen.  It is a family business and the Taproom is being run by the two brothers.  One is the brewer.

We had the beer cheese soup, deep fried green beans and the BLT with two eggs.  This is a farm to table place so the eggs came from their hen house and were awesome.  It is going to be better later in the season when they have corn, tomatoes, etc.   They have about 16 beers on draft and about 50 bottles/cans.  The brewery is called Broken Rock Brewery and they had two beers on draft, Port Austin Pale Ale and the Porter but both were out when we were there.  I will try these when we go back this weekend.  They do offer a paddle of 4-5 0z tasters for $10. I ordered 3 different Perrin beers and a Kuhnhenn DIPA.

They had trivia so we purchased a card for $5 and actually came in first place against 4 other teams giving us a $25 gift certificate that we will spend over the weekend.

I am very excited about this new place.  Great to have a craft beer place with good food in Port Austin (with an awesome outside space).  The grounds are nicely landscaped and there are lots of places to hang out.  You can find out more by visiting their website.  http://www.birdcreekfarms.com/#!the-tap-room/mainPage.
