I recently traveled to Dubai to attend the Dubai Airshow. First time to the Middle East so it was interesting. I was traveling with my German colleague so we are always looking for a place for a cold beer at the end of the day. We booked into the Golden Tulip Al Jazira Hotel & Resort which was only about 30 minutes from the Al Maktoum airport which was the location of the Dubai Airshow. It was closer to Abu Dhabi than Dubai. Alcohol is typically only available in hotels. I guess there are also liquor stores but you have to have a license in order to purchase and transport alcohol (definitely not a place for me). We did find a decent sports bar at our hotel that had San Miguel on special (2 for 1). Price was 40 Emirati Dirham which is about US$11 so this wasn’t too bad. We played pool, and discussed politics until 2:00 a.m. Luckily the next day was a “tour” day so it wasn’t too bad. We did tour Abu Dhabi and Dubai before my 17hr flight back into Atlanta (then on to Tampa). I have added a booking.com link to the hotel for more info.
