My wife and I took a www.goaheadtours.com guided tour of Italy in June with some friends of ours that were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. We had a 2 day delay getting out of the US due to flight issues but when we got there we started in Florence, spent 2 days in Siena, 2 days in Perugia and 3 days in Rome. I wasn’t sure I was going to like a group tour but it was great. We saw lots of things that would have been difficult to do on our own in the same amount of time.
Now Italy isn’t the best place to seek out beer and since we were on a Tuscany food/wine tour, the next three posts are going to be focused more on the food and wine. We had dinner at the Trattoria Papei upon the recommendation of our tour guide. It was truly a local place and not a “touristy” restaurant. Luckily we got Enzo (the owner) as our server so we turned it over to him to recommend our appetizers, pasta and dessert. We had various bruschetta’s (tomato, chicken liver pate’, and even spleen pate’). We had wild boar pasta that was fabulous. Not gamey because the wild boar in this region actually eat grapes in the vineyards (a real problem). We drank some nice red wines and finished with biscotti dipped in brandy, and of course a shot of limoncello.
This was the anniversary night of our friends so we had a great evening with Enzo and would highly recommend this place for dinner if you have a free evening in Siena. I couldn’t find a website but did find a Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/ANTICA-TRATTORIA-PAPEI/438131520260
